Prompt Fountain– Slop Generator is an interactive water fountain installation that exposes the natural resource consumption of contemporary technology. The ceramic form is adorned with soldered circuit boards, juxtaposing ancient vessels with the hidden components that make digital life possible. The metallic glazes evoke the rare earth elements that are mined in order to make computers, while the weathered stone basin references the erosion and deterioration of our planet caused by human activity.

As viewers approach, LED indicators illuminate and respond to the viewer’s presence, making tangible the invisible cost of our daily interactions with technology. The proliferation of AI chatbots into every facet of digital life exponentially increases these costs. The construction of new AI data centers threatens the already fragile water supply. Server cooling consumes approximately 500ml of water per ChatGPT conversation. This fountain transforms abstract statistics into immediate, physical experience and implicates viewers in the environmental consequences of society’s technological infrastructure.
